By Appointment Evening Classes

This summer I am teaching classes by appointment for evenings and weekends.  I have a daughter getting married this fall, so after that I will have more time slots open.

Please remember, that the American Heart Association does NOT allow instructors to have blank cards. When we teach a class, we have to turn that information into our training site, who gives it to the training center, who then must order and process the cards, then the cards are passed back down to the instructor who then mails them to the student. THIS PROCESS TAKES TIME. We can NOT get a card to you any quicker than time allows for this process.

Any instructors caught with old blank cards are being terminated from teaching--so please don't tell me that you know of an instructor who does this, or who hand fills out the cards. They are either not current instructor who has some old cards, or they are using cards that are not AHA cards, but bootleg copies (sometimes sold on ebay).

Also, instructors are to give you your own book to keep-UNLESS you already have a current book from a previous AHA class.

It is that time of year where everyone is prone to getting sick. When the weather is bad outside, we tend to stay inside and pass germs. There are some things you can do, to help prevent the sharing of germs.

Change your filters--that includes your furnace filter and in newer cars a filter (not the air cleaner) that your A/C and heat run through. If you don't know where that filter is, stop by your local jiffy lube place and they can show you.

Toss that old toothbrush and switch to a new one. Frequently pour some mouthwash over it to kill those cold germs.

Add some vinegar or bleach to your dishwasher when washing dishes. (Or to the sink if washing by hand).

Wipe down those frequently touched surfaces that get ignored from daily cleaning--such as light switches, can opener, lighters, door knobs, remote controls, telephones, cabinet knobs, computers, stair railings, stove knobs, sink handles....and don't forget the car--steering wheel, door handles, radio knobs....

Watch for those dirty public places--use a wipe to clean before touching grocery carts, elevator buttons, gas pumps, bathrooms, menus....

Teach family members to cover when they cough or sneeze.

Don't share drinks or food.

If you can, get outside for a few minutes each day. If you can't get out, open a couple of windows for a few minutes each day to get some air circulation.

The best of all, is what your mother always told you. Wash your hands with soap and running water, for at least 30 seconds at a time. Do it often, especially after touching shared surfaces, blowing your nose (or your child's), touching your face.....
